All LAX car rentals are off-site from the LAX airport so you have to catch a bus to get to the rental office. After waiting for the bus, there is a 20 minute drive to the Advantage rental office. Once at the Advantage Rental office, I waited in line for 1.5 hours just to get attended to at the counter, because it took so long for the counter attendant to get the car to each customer. I waited another 20 minutes to receive my actual car and finally drive off. This LAX office is totally understaffed and no fun at all. The LAX office needs to hire more staff to serve at the counters and get the cars ready outside to get them to the customers quicker. We dropped off our car at John Wayne Airport and this is a much better office.I suggest that you do not use Advantage Rental Car ever and I will not use them again due to all the negative reviews. Also try and find a better car rental company when flying into LAX, and rather pay a little bit more for better service. Better still, don’t fly into LAX and try and use another airport in Los Angeles with better car rental service.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — This was the first time that I rented from Advantage, and it was a pretty good experience compared to what I have read here. We arrived at LAX, got our bags and went to the curbside pickup to wait for the shuttle. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for the shuttle and while I did see numerous shuttles for the other rental car companies drive by, 10 minutes was an acceptable time to wait to be picked up. The shuttle was clean, the driver was friendly and the air conditioning worked well. With traffic at LAX, it took about 15-20 minutes to get to the Advantage facility. Granted it is not the cleanest or newest rental facility that I have gone into, but it was still a 6 out of 10. When we got there at around 6:00pm, there was no line and we were able to walk right up and get an agent. The agent was friendly and did not have an attitude like I have read other reviewers have experienced. The only problem that I had was at first they tried to just assign us a car and not give us a choice. When I asked if there were options available, the agent provided me with a few to choose from. All-in-all, they had 5 or 6 different full-size cars to choose from and we ended up with a loaded 2013 Toyota Camry with only 15k miles on it. The car was clean inside and out and had just a few minor scratches on the bumper. After choosing the car we wanted, checkout was a breeze. The agent offered the additional insurance and gas options, but once I denied them, he didn’t try to persuade me to buy it again. He was patient and didn’t get an attitude when we took about 15 or 20 minutes to look at the different cars that were available and choose one that was a different one than what was originally selected for us, so that was pretty impressive. The guard at the exit was friendly and asked me how my day was and seemed interested in my response. He looked over the indications on my slip as to the minor scratches and signed off on it and we were on our way. Returning the car was even easier than getting it. We pulled right up and an agent came right out and did a quick spot check on the vehicle, joked around with us a little bit about getting a black car and returning a white car (because she said we went Tokyo drifting with it) and gave us our receipt. Before she was done checking the car back in, the shuttle driver had come over to use with a bag cart, loaded up our suitcases for us and walked us to the shuttle to get us started on our way back to the airport. We got on the shuttle and within 20 minutes of pulling into the lot to return the car, we arrived at our airlines entrance at the airport with plenty of time ahead of our flight. Additionally, the $200 that was put on hold on my credit card was returned to me within 2 days of returning the car, which again was more than I expected. Four stars instead of five due to the limited amount of car selections, but otherwise the service was really good. I will definitely use Advantage if/when I return to LAX.

We recently went on a trip to Orlando Florida and booked a rental car through Orbitz. The best deal came up as Advantage Rent a Car at the airport. Orbitz offered to pre-buy auto insurance for the rental car ahead of time for a discount. I did it. When we arrived at the rental counter, the customer service rep told me that the pre bought insurance “didn’t count” and that I would not be covered if there was damage done to the car, but they would offer to sell me their insurance for extra. Furthermore, they told me they would charge $10 more a day to add a driver to the vehicle. Then they warned us that the vehicle better not have any damage or even minor blemishes done to it or we would have to pay. After that we walked out to the parking garage to get the car which they said would be waiting for us. When we got there it took over half an hour for the car to show up. Then we had to take an additional 20 minutes to document all the dings and damage it already had so we wouldn’t be liable. The car ended up working out great for us, but I would never use this rental car company again!

As I was planning my recent trip to Los Angeles, I learned that people tend to review only when they have a bad experience. I’m here to tell you that my experience with Advantage was just fine. It was the cheapest price I could find (including the unfortunate underage fee for being under 25) and I was skeptical when I read all the reviews about how poor the service was, but I went ahead with it anyway. The shuttle came and picked me up from LAX promptly and took me to the company lot. The only bad thing that happened was there was only one employee working at the rental center at the time so I had to wait about 20 minutes before being helped. However, once I got to being helped it was fine. I stood my ground and resisted any of the extra charges (there was NO way I was paying more than I had to), and I would suggest others to do the same. If you already have car insurance, chances are it may cover you for rentals, so I’d check into that before you think about buying into any of their “extra coverage.” I was very surprised at the quality of car I got. From all the reviews I read, I thought I’d be getting a clunker since I signed up for the economy car (cheapest one), but no! I walked out and found that my rental was a 2009 Nissan Sentra. Well, color me happy! The car ran great and looked great (clean inside and out, no dents/dings/scratches). It got me everywhere I needed to be and when I returned it, all I had to do was make sure it had the same amount of gas it had when I got it (but I had to check the amount with them when I turned it in – they tried to tell me it went out with a full tank of gas when it only went out with half. All I had to do was show them my payment info that confirmed it was only at half when I drove it off the lot and they changed it). The employees were very nice and helpful. The price they charged me in the end was exactly what I had figured when I was budgeting my trip – I was super happy that they didn’t try to tack on any extra fees when I brought it back (that was one of my biggest fears). They shuttled me right back to the airport gate I needed to be at and that was that. All I’m saying is, bear in mind that people generally review when they’ve had a bad experience. I’m glad I stuck with Advantage – it was the cheapest price for a nice car that got me where I needed to be with no hassles.
